About Kromanti Experience

The Kromanti Experience is more than just a cultural tour; it is a transformative journey into the heart of Jamaica’s Indigenous legacy. Founded by Maurice Lee in 2015, the company offers an immersive exploration into the rich history of the Indigenous community, deeply rooted in the island’s fight for freedom. Located in Moore Town, Portland, one of the original Indigenous communities, this experience brings to life the story of resilient Black people who fought—and triumphed—against British colonial forces to preserve their independence and culture.

Home to the legendary Queen Nanny, a national hero and symbol of resistance, Moore Town is steeped in the legacy of fierce, enduring freedom. Maurice Lee, with his profound knowledge of Indigenous history and culture, leads visitors on a journey that goes beyond mere sightseeing. His storytelling illuminates the lives of the Indigenous people, who created a sovereign, self-sustaining community that defied enslavement and colonial oppression.

The Kromanti Experience is named after the language spoken by the Maroon community, a beautiful reflection of their African roots. Through these tours, Maurice and his team work to dismantle common misconceptions about the Jamaican Indigenous people, offering a more authentic, nuanced perspective that places them as key players in global history. They highlight the Indigenous people’s role not only in resisting enslavement but also in preserving African traditions, spirituality, and autonomy.

For visitors, this is not just an educational tour—it’s a profound reconnection to the African diaspora, an opportunity to explore and reclaim heritage beyond the confines of slavery narratives. By engaging with the past, the Kromanti Experience promotes a deeper understanding of cultural resilience, healing, and empowerment. In doing so, the company is safeguarding Indigenous history for future generations, ensuring that this vital story is celebrated and preserved for years to come.

“It’s more than a tour, it’s an experience—one that revitalizes history, connects you to your roots, and strengthens the cultural ties that bind us all.”
